The Kulturhaus Eidelstedt is located in the east of Hamburg and offers a lot, including a library, a café, and much more:

The Kulturhaus is an older building that has been renovated several times and nowadays is mostly accessible. The following limitations are currently known:

  • The stage and bar are very unfavorable for people with wheelchairs and those with limited mobility.
  • The bar is also difficult for small people to access.
  • The staircase has a handrail on only one side, no central handrail, and is very wide and open. We recommend people with limited mobility to use the elevator.
  • The staircase leading to the upper floor opens directly in front of the restrooms and right into an area where crowds of people can occur between sessions. Caution is advised for people with limited mobility or visual impairments.
  • Many doors are not well-placed for people with wheelchairs to open them.
  • Apart from the elevator buttons, no braille labels or tactile systems are known.
  • Most rooms are bright and provide sufficient lighting.
  • Some rooms cannot be darkened (Makerspace, Foyer).
  • Most rooms are expected to have very good acoustics and few background noises.
  • Some rooms can be very noisy (Makerspace, Bar, Foyer).
  • The building is well isolated and has ventilation (but no air filtration or air conditioning).
  • We were able to obtain 2 air filters, which can be used in the bar (no windows) and in one of the workshop rooms (either in exp(-Tardis) or Makerspace).
  • The wheelchair-accessible toilet is shared with all guests in the house, not just with cfc participants.

However, our Accessibility Team has planned some measures to reduce barriers. The team is currently building a dedicated info page for you:

The Kulturhaus is rather formally furnished, but we'll do our best to make it cozy for you!

In most rooms, the windows can be completely darkened.

There is a barrier-free toilet.

The other toilets at the cfc will be accessible to all attendees. However, there are still relatively few toilets for all of us. So it would be good if you'd be prepared for occasional waiting times.

Unfortunately, we don't have much storage space for luggage and no cloakroom. We can only store a few smaller pieces of luggage in the crew break room (not locked, not insured!).

Additionally, on Friday and Saturday, we will also be using a transporter as a 'luggage bus'. If you would like to store your luggage there (not insured!), please contact the 'important stuff' corner. However, please note that only a few people have access to it, and access is essentially limited to drop-off at 1:00 PM (Friday) or 9:30 AM (Saturday) and pick-up at 11:30 PM. If you need access in between, you may have to wait for a while until a person with a key is available and has time.

Light luggage would be an advantage!

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at the Kulturhaus.
